We are delighted to announce that Kingdom Community Bank is now the first small to medium local business in Glenrothes Town Centre to become an accredited Living Wage employer. They join 11 other third sector organisations in Glenrothes to participate in the pledge of making Glenrothes a Living Wage town

Kingdom Community Bank is a credit union promoting the financial wellbeing of people in Fife.

Janice Gourlay, founding member and chairperson (pictured above, right, with Sofia Dogan, Interim Manager) said “I’m delighted that we’re able to demonstrate our commitment to paying a real living wage and becoming part of this growing movement. We’re also the first of the smaller, local businesses in the Kingdom Shopping Centre to become accredited.  We hope other businesses will join us in committing to paying their staff a decent level of pay and help make Glenrothes a Living Wage Town.”

Sofia Dogan added "As a community-owned ethical organisation we’re proud to be an accredited Living Wage employer. it’s important for us to pay our staff a decent level of pay so we’re making sure we never pay our staff less than the real Living Wage. In-work poverty and the expensive cost of credit affects a large proportion of Fifers causing increased budget pressures. We are offering affordable low-cost loans and the profits we make are re-invested into our products and services or distributed amongst our members.”

Living Wage accreditation is awarded to employers by Living Wage Scotland and is a symbol of responsible business practice.  Accreditation is achieved when employers choose to go beyond the government’s minimum wage and pay all their staff a real Living Wage (currently £9.30 per hour).
