In a great example of co-production work the Dementia Friendly Glenrothes project (hosted by Alzheimer Scotland until 2018) in collaboration with Fife Council, Scottish Heath Council and Police Scotland have produced a leaflet that details accessible transport options, services and helpful contact details for people travelling throughout Fife who may need some assistance.

Ruth McCabe, Project Manager, Dementia Friendly Fife said: "It is also another example that if you get it right for dementia then you get it right for other people too."

The need for this leaflet was identified by participants of the Dementia Friendly Fife consultation process that took place in 2018. One of the major themes that emerged from the consultation was access to public transport. The consensus of people with lived experience of dementia in the Fife was that the public bus system was difficult to navigate and the options and access to concessionary travel where unclear. The subject was the focus of a Dementia Friendly Glenrothes Participation and Engagement Group which was held in July 2018 and as a result of this work, and after consultation with several members of the public living with dementia in their lives across the Kingdom the leaflet was created.

This leaflet is available as a PDF and with sponsorship from the Kingdom Housing Group 2,000 copies have been printed and distributed around Fife in local projects, libraries and GP surgeries.

There is also an accompanying webpage available with information about all concessionary travel schemes in and around Fife.
