Fife Gingerbread facing unprecedented funding pressures
Created: 15/02/2019Most third sector organisations face funding challenges, many do so every single year without fail, but for Fife Gingerbread 2019 has brought about some major challenges that threaten the very services they provide.
Like many of us in our sector, they receive funding from a range of different sources, face increases in demand, increasing costs and competition for funding. Gingerbread has had a range of funding streams either come to an end or due to come to an end, with dire consequences for their service users. They've embarked on a significant campaign to highlight the pressures they face and the impact if funding can't be secured. You can read more about this on their website.
FVA has provided some support to Gingerbread and has spoken to senior Council officers, Scottish Government civil servants and a range of local politicians to try to find a solution. We're concerned about the potential loss of services in Fife, job losses and the compound impact of cuts across the third sector and what that might mean for the people and communities in Fife. We continue to work with all partners to try to ensure our sector gets as much funding and support as possible to continue the valuable, life-changing work we do.
Sadly, Gingerbread won't be the only organisation with major financial challenges and big decisions to take. FVA can provide help to try and identify alternative funding sources, to support good governance and compliance and help organisations to plan ahead. We also help organisations to wind up properly if all other avenues have been explored and no other viable option exists.
