    Female Genital Mutilation is an abuse of human rights and is a child protection issue. This stand-alone, multi-agency seminar is aimed at professionals working across services to raise awareness of the very current issue surrounding female genital mutilation, including prevalence, consequences, legal aspects and implications for practice. There is a need for us all to become more aware of FGM which is widespread in a number of communities in Scotland.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • To understand the practice and consequences of female genital mutilation/female circumcision;
    • To better understand the prevalence, reasons and justifications for this practice;
    • To develop an understanding of how to identify those at potential risk of FGM;
    • To be able to access appropriate support and information for clients and professionals;
    • To gain an understanding of the legal issues around FGM.

    The seminar will be facilitated by Fife Violence Against Women Partnership and NHS Fife.
