The Independent Review of Learning Disability and Autism in the Mental Health Act
Created: 25/09/2018The Minister for Mental Health has commissioned an independent review of the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 specifically for people with learning disability or autism.
For the review to be robust it is essential that they receive evidence from as many people as possible.
Full information can be found by clicking here.
The review is independently directed by the Chair, Andrew Rome. The Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland employs the review’s Secretary and Project Manager and supports all of the review’s corporate functions. The review has authority from the Commission to seek and process the data that they will record.
Evidence for Stage 1 of the review is being taken from now to the end of November. They seek evidence on the extent to which the Mental Health Act promotes and protects the human rights of people with learning disability or autism. They are engaging with people who have any experience of the Mental Health Act.
