Trustees ensure that the organisation complies with requirements under both Charity and Company Laws, in addition to other laws such as Employment, Health & Safety etc. Board meetings are held bi-monthly and the Trustees take an active part in the discussions and decision-making. Free training on the Roles and Responsibilities of a Trustee is available from FVA.
Once a trustee has been elected they will work through the Home-Start induction programme. The programme will be supported, throughout, by the information and guidance within the Governance Handbook.

Director, Trustee, Board/Committee member or Governor?!
Organisations have different names for the volunteers who are responsible for the running of the organisation - some are called Board members, some are Committee members, some may use the word Director for example. Broadly speaking, they mean the same thing - the people at the top who are ultimately responsible! These are important roles (for which training and support is available) and without volunteers at board level voluntary sector organisations could not exist.
