Looking to develop your minute-taking skills and to get a sense of how a voluntary board or committee works? The Ecology Centre is seeking a volunteer minute-taker for the regular meetings of its executive committee. The committee consists of 12 people and meets on a Thursday evening every six weeks to discuss the overall direction of The Ecology Centre, including strategic and business planning, HR matters, finance, funding and project work. You will be directly supported by the Chair of the committee and the General Manager of The Ecology Centre. The centre is situated on the banks of Kinghorn Loch, with their new centre and grounds, which are currently being developed by staff and volunteers and will be used in the future for their growing projects and environmental education visits. They have an army of volunteers who help with the many and varied tasks around the site. They employ 11 members of staff as well as providing employment training opportunities. They also accommodate school and college placements. Demand for educational visits has grown and they now work with hundreds of school children each year helping them to understand the importance of and how to care for our environment.
Volunteers will have a walk and talk show round of the centre and site along with a health and safety induction. The volunteer will have full support of the General Manager and Executive Committee Chairperson
The Ecology Centre are looking for someone who has minute taking and administration experience but would like to build on this for the purposes of their own career. They would like someone who has an interest in the environment, helping young people and a diverse variety of people from many different types of backgrounds so they understand the situation of the organisation.

Director, Trustee, Board/Committee member or Governor?!
Organisations have different names for the volunteers who are responsible for the running of the organisation - some are called Board members, some are Committee members, some may use the word Director for example. Broadly speaking, they mean the same thing - the people at the top who are ultimately responsible! These are important roles (for which training and support is available) and without volunteers at board level voluntary sector organisations could not exist.
